I love cookies, brownies, and festive treats. But I don’t love all the excess sugar, gluten, and dairy that come along with them. These ingredients don’t always agree with me, so I stock my pantry with healthier alternatives to make wholesome desserts and snacks. It’s a win-win!

Essential Holiday Baking Ingredients and Recipes

Almond, Coconut, and Gluten-Free Flours: Fortunately, it’s not hard to find a gluten-free alternative for all of your baking needs. Gluten-free flour blends (like this one from Bob’s Red Mill) are ideal if you simply want to swap regular flour for gluten-free flour.

Otherwise, look for recipes that feature almond and coconut flours, like these Cinnamon Bun Muffins or Almond Flour Sugar Cookies. (Just be sure to cut the cookie dough into holiday shapes instead of Halloween shapes, as the recipe indicates.)

Carob Chips: Free from caffeine, carob chips are a stimulant-free alternative to chocolate chips. The taste may take some getting used to but, if you’re sensitive to caffeine, it will be worth it.
