Curious About the Paleo Diet? Here’s Why I (and My Clients) Love It

One of the most important ways a personal chef can support you is by working with your diet. Whether you’ve been wanting to try a new regimen or have been following one for years, a personal chef should be able to accommodate your needs.

At Secret Ingredient, we get a lot of requests for the Paleo diet—which I love! I eat in alignment with Paleo principles for many of my meals, and I always enjoy getting creative with vegetables, animal protein, nuts and seeds.

What IS the Paleo Diet, Anyway?

Studies have shown that Paleolithic humans ate a hunter-gatherer diet, and were healthier than today’s humans. The latest research also tells us that eating a diet of whole, unprocessed food is the key to great health and longevity—and that’s what Paleo advocates.

Paleo isn’t a traditional diet you try for a month and forget about. The goal is to make mindful (and long-term) lifestyle changes. Fortunately, the longer you stick with it, the easier it becomes. Having more energy, sleeping better and living without digestive issues is usually motivation enough to stay on track!

If you’re unfamiliar with Paleo principles, here’s the gist:

  1. Eat whole, unprocessed foods from animal and plant sources.
  2. Don’t eat grains, legumes, soy, dairy or refined sugar (honey, maple syrup and fruit are okay).
  3. Enjoy lots of vegetables, meat, eggs, nuts and seeds.
  4. Incorporate high-quality fats such as avocado oil and coconut oil; avoid refined oils like soy, canola and vegetable oil.
