Resolutions for the New Year: gifts that make them stick

Resolutions for the New Year

I know that the season we associate with gift giving has passed, and that it’s time to make our resolutions for the New Year. But what if I told you that you could keep on gift giving, and work to improve yourself. Interested? Here’s the secret: the gifts that you’re going to give this time around are for yourself!

After a stressful holiday season and the reality of getting back to the grind, we all have an excuse to treat ourselves… but not the way we did at that New Year’s dessert table. Instead, I have some suggestions for gifts that you can treat yourself to while working toward to your 2017 health and happiness goals. And I should mention that “gifts” don’t always include wrapping paper and bows. Time, food and self-care are some of the best rewards in the world.

Gifts to Achieve Your Resolutions for the New Year

  • Get a massage at a local spa, like Cole Wellness Spa on North Wayne Ave.
  • Go book shopping, and read something new every week.
  • Sign up for a yoga class. (Try Verge Yoga on Lancaster Ave).
  • Incorporate more seasonal fruits and veggies into your diet. Think kale, oranges, grapefruit and root vegetables (perfect for warming meals and vegetable soups!).
  • Bundle up and take a brisk 30-minute walk in the afternoon sunlight. A Patagonia fleece can take the edge off that blustery winter wind.
