Fire Up The Grill

It’s time to get outside, fire up the grill and invite some friends over for a barbeque. Grilling is a fun and flavorful way to cook.  One of the great things about grilling is that you can be a novice in the kitchen and still prepare a fabulous meal.

Although you don’t have to be a grill master to prepare great food; here are a few tips that promise success.  It is important to have the proper tools before you grill. A pair of tongs, metal spatula, metal grill grate scraper, and vegetable oil are essential.  It is key to start with a clean grill grate to prevent food from sticking and always allow your grill enough time to heat up.

Why Secret Ingredient loves to grill!

  • Grilling is usually quick and easy.  You can have a delicious, healthy meal prepared in 30 minutes or less.  This makes it a great choice for summer entertaining or a busy weeknight.  Plus a cookout keeps the party outside and the kitchen clean. There are so many occasions to find an excuse to throw a party during the summer – Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day or just a friendly get together.  Secret Ingredient has some wonderful cookout suggestions that all of your hungry guests will enjoy, even the pickiest of eaters. If you’re feeding a crowd, our Chipotle Pork Tenderloin with Strawberry Salsa is always a crowd favorite.
  • It keeps the house cool during those warm summer days and nights.  The last thing you need on a hot, humid day is to turn on the oven.
  • There are so many healthy grilling recipes.  There is no need to make the same meal over and over again. Feel free to skip the traditional hot dogs and beef patties.  Try skewering shrimp, chicken or beef with veggies or another one of our favorites like this Grilled Salmon with Smoky Tomato Salsa.

  • Marinating or rubbing spices on poultry, meat or fish can add amazing flavor and allow you to use less salt.  Make a simple rub using your favorite spice and some black pepper. Secret Ingredient loves this simple Citrus Marinated Chicken Breast.  We suggest serving it with guacamole or mango salsa.

  • The grill isn’t just for meat.  It’s great for cooking crisp, summer vegetables like bell peppers and zucchini.  More starchy vegetables can be grilled too by using indirect heat, wrapping them in tinfoil is a good trick.
