I hope you had a magical Thanksgiving! I cooked a feast, and then spent time relaxing with my family. Now that the turkey has been turned into soup and the leftovers have been gobbled up, I’m ready for the December holidays here in Wayne, PA. And to help you get into the festive spirit, I’ve created a catering guide with simple (and mindful) party planning tips.
This time of year is all about food, drink, gifts, merriment…and way too much to do! If you’re in charge of hosting the annual dinner or get-together, here’s a chef-approved cheat sheet for throwing a happy and healthy holiday party.
Holiday Catering Guide
- Plan Early: It’s always a good idea to plan as early as possible. A few weeks before your event, be sure to finalize your guest list, figure out your menu and pull together all of your recipes. Waiting until the last minute will only cause more stress and overwhelm.
- Keep It Clean: We all love to indulge during the holidays, but that doesn’t mean you can’t serve vegetables, leafy greens, salads and soups—all dressed up for the season. Some of my favorite sides include my Beet & Goat Cheese Salad and French Green Beans.
- Pour the Perfect Wine: Hosts often feel the need to buy all sorts of alcohol and liquor to accommodate their guests. However, a few bottles of perfectly paired wines are really all that you need. If you’re not sure what to serve, my FREE Holiday Wine Pairing Guide will be available soon!
- Cook in Advance: You want to enjoy time with your guests, so minimize day-of tasks by getting a head start on your dinner. Set the table and decorate about a week before your party. Make desserts, like cookies, about 2-3 days prior. Prepare your side dishes and arrange your appetizer platters the day before.
- Hire a Caterer: Secret Ingredient Holiday Catering Services are for anyone who wants to cross all of the cooking, shopping, serving and cleaning off of their list. We plan a personalized menu, prepare all of your dishes and provide table service.
